BED IN A BOX

The temps are supposed to get down around 16 degrees tonight and I figured even the garage kitties would be cold. I have a lot of beds for them including padded kitty caves and one inside a dog crate but lately, they like sleeping on the big fluffy pillow against the wall between the garage and the house. It’s probably warmer because it’s an interior wall.

So I made them a little fleece-lined bed in a box.  I taped fleece around the inside of the box and put an old cat bed on the bottom. On top of that, I put a thermal cat bed, which is supposed to warm back up from body heat. I put it on a shelf and covered it with an old rug to kind of insulate it.

I only put it out an hour ago and Midnight has made herself comfy. It’s not large but since they snuggle all the time, it’s plenty big and if they both go in at the same time, there won’t be a lot of extra space for cold air to circulate. Hopefully, Charley will crawl in before the night is over.

DOG PSYCHOLOGY

I started walking Beasley on Christmas Eve and she seemed to be adjusting except when we passed kids riding on their bikes, the garbage truck, etc. so I would then just turn around and bring her home.

Suddenly, she did not want to go outside anymore when she had been doing so well.  I had to start walking her out on the leash again.  So I started thinking that maybe the walks were more traumatizing than I thought and sure enough, as soon as I quit walking her, she started running out the door again with the other dogs.

I still have to stand out there and make sure she potties and she has learned to just step right off the deck, potty and come back. Especially when it’s raining.  Smart girl.  Now if she would just learn to hold it.  She still uses the rug sometimes, which isn’t even a rug any more. It’s two towels with potty pads underneath them.

Still… baby steps

ARRESTED!

Four men were finally arrested for the Pit Bull fighting ring.  There were a total of 240 charges against them ranging from illegal gambling, animal fighting to aggravated cruelty to animals.  These are just State charges and since dog fighting is a Federal offense, there should be more charges to come.

The bail was set at $50,000 per person.  I was hoping none of them would be able to come up with it but so far, two of them have.

The owner of the property was also arrested for setting a fire without a permit.  But thank Heavens he did or they wouldn’t have found the Pitties. More charges are pending for him. He lived next door, there’s no way he wasn’t aware of what was going on.
